Evangelism Opportunities:

 1.  Freestyle Motocross Event at the American Airlines Center:  On Saturday January 10th, we will meet at FBC Justin to carpool to this event in Dallas at 4:30PM.  The event starts at 7:30PM.  We will pass out tracts, open-air preach and do one-to-one as the fans wait to go inside.  If you would like to join us, please email me at jon@lostcauseministries.com.

2.  Fort Worth Stock Show “All Western Parade”:  On Saturday, January 17th, we will meet on the corner of Houston & Third Street at 9:30AM to pass out tracts to the thousands that will be lining the parade route.  If you have never been out with us, a parade like this one is one of the easiest ways to get started passing out tracts.  Parade goers are used to getting free stuff at a parade, and people rarely turn freebies down.     At the end of the parade, we will do a brief open-air message.  We have had a great time at this parade in the past.  We should be finished between 1:30-2:00PM.  Bring a little extra spending money for lunch.  The carpool from FBC Justin will leave at 8:30AM.  If you would like to join us, please email me at jon@lostcauseministries.com.

3.  Tuesday, January 20th 10:30AM-2:30PM: TLC Ministries will be doing evangelism at the University of North Texas in Denton. We have reserved a free speech area on campus near the Student Union and will pass out tracts, do one-to-one and open-air preach. You can find directions to the campus at www.unt.edu.  If you would like to join us, please email me at jon@lostcauseministries.com.

4.  Friday, January 23rd:  We will travel to the American Airlines Center in Dallas to evangelize at the AC\DC concert.  We will meet at FBC Justin to carpool to the event at 5:00PM.   The doors open at 8:00PM, so we will take a few hours to open-air preach, tract and do one-to-one.  If you would like to join us, please email me at jon@lostcauseministries.com.

5.   Tuesday, January 27th 10:30AM-2:30PM:  details same as #3 above.

9.   Tuesday, February 17th:  Details same as #3 above.

10.  Saturday, February 21st, 5:00PM–??:  Dallas is having their second annual Mystiqal Mardi Gras parade in downtown Dallas.  We will meet at FBC Justin to carpool to the event at 5:00PM.  The parade starts at 7:30 so this gives us some time before the parade starts to tract, open-air and do one-to-one.  This will NOT be a family friendly event, so we’re asking that participants be 18 years of age or older.  If you would like to join us, please email me at jon@lostcauseministries.com.

Evangelism Report:

New Years Eve in Dallas:

We’re blessed to report that a strong contingent of believers hit the streets in downtown Dallas on New Years Eve to bring the Gospel to the Big D NYE event.  Praise the Lord, the organizers spent many thousands of dollars to bring in bands, TV, and advertising just to get these folks together so we could witness to them!  All we had to do to take this little missions trip was pay for gas, meals at IHOP and Whataburger, parking and the cost of tracts!

We were blessed to have our largest street outreach of the year, with almost 20 people coming out to share the Gospel.  Praise the Lord for these folks who joined us (me and Tim Crawford):  Chris Manfreda, Dennis Cain, Lis Dyvig, Brad Snow, Tom Sadowski, Jeff Pittman, Ron Martinez, Chad Welty, Wayne Owens, Juan Santos (and several who came out with him), and several friends from a local church in Dallas.  Thousands of tracts were given out and we had many one-to-ones.  We also did a little open-air preaching, but that was a challenge given the volume of the music.  At some points one-to-ones were nearly impossible because of the noise.

I had a good one-to-one with a false convert who was out partying.  He mis-defined repentance and we talked about using the grace of God as a license to sin (Rom. 6:1; Jude 3).  We also talked about what the grace of God should do; motivate us to live a holy life (Titus 2:11-14).  Please pray that he will read the MDB tract he received and examine himself in sober judgment.

There were many professing Christians out getting drunk that night.  Tim Crawford had an interesting confrontation with a woman who told him that he was doing it all wrong, that he needed to “earn the right” to witness to people.  She actually drove off someone Tim had been talking to.  She would not receive the rebuke she deserved.  She goes to a popular church nearby.  How sad that she thought she did God a service by driving away someone who was willing to listen to the Gospel in an effort to “correct” Tim.

Some of the Christians thanked us for being there.  “Yer doin’ a gujob.  Keepitup! (hiccup).”  Others, like the aforementioned woman, were barriers.  While I struggled through an OA, a “Christian” told my heckler that it was okay to get drunk once in awhile as long as you don’t make it a habit.  The heckler (an atheist marine) pointed out that this was ludicrous and if you are going to believe something then you need to go the whole way.  It was nice to be able to agree with a heckler for once, but the “Christian” wasn’t listening.

Brad ended up having a long conversation with the marine and diffused many of his objections.  He was very self righteous (the marine, not Brad) and would not admit to lying, stealing or looking with lust.  Maybe Brad will post something here about his conversation, so I won’t go any further than to say please pray for this atheistic marine.

Chris had a good one-to-three with some Muslims.  Unbeknownst to me, Chris is a former Muslim and so he was able to address them with some authority.  I hope Chris can come out some more in the future.  Ron had a good one-to-one with a child (8-10 years old) who was very convicted as he read the tract.  The parents tried to shoo him away from Ron, but he wanted to hear the truth.  Pray that this child who was dragged out to this hedonistic environment, will see the contrast between the truth and evil and repent and believe the Gospel.

Apparently while I was preaching someone tossed a lit cigarette into the hood of my jacket.  I kept smelling something burning, but kept going and passed out tracts after I was done.  A little later, I met Charles, a guy I met in West End last month, and as we were talking he said, “Hey man, you’re coat is on fire!”  I thought he was joking until he started to frantically pat my coat down and I saw sparks flying off onto the pavement.  I was about to take the thing off when he extinguished it.  Anyway, I praise the Lord for Charles.  There’s a quarter sized hole burned into my hood.  Praise God for flame resistant coats.  I hope that’s as close as I get to getting burned at the stake.

Juan Santos came out later with a small group from his church.  They did some street light preaching as the crowd left the area.  As Juan preached, an angry guy came storming across the street and got up in his face.  Praise the Lord, he handled it well and nothing came of it.  The Lord is working in Juan’s church; praise the Lord for the men who came out with him.

Cotton Bowl (Fair Park, Dallas):

On Friday TLC staff, Samantha Speed, Wayne Owens, and Paul Newcomb went out to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas to evangelize.  Thousands of fans come to this event and we were able to pass out many hundreds of tracts.  We got there a little late because of traffic and bad information regarding the start of the game, but we gave out hundreds of the NFL Trivia tracts from One Million Tracts.  These are great tracts for football fans, no matter what level the competition.  This was Paul’s first time out with us and he did a great job, passing out tracts like a pro.

Evangelism Resources:

1.     Here’s a great way to use the upcoming Presidential inauguration as an opportunity for evangelism!  Check out the “America Wants Change” tract from One Million Tracts!  They are only $3.00 per pack of 100 and will get snapped up by your Democratic friends.

 2.  Check out this new website from Answers in Genesis.   It features many very affordable audio, video, text and other downloads.

3.  Here’s a creative evangelistic website from our friends who have a local evangelism team here in Dallas.  It’s called The Afterlife Catalog.  It presents a number of options about life after death that are popularly heard in witnessing.  The lost person can click on any one of these options that they agree with and get a Biblical answer to these ideas.

 4.  Check out this thought provoking video called “Who Will Go to America?”.  I’ve also written a short blog on the same subject.  Check it out here.

4.  Dr. Frank Turek, host of the TV program “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” will be at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Allen, TX on February 7-8.  TLC Ministries is assisting the church in setting up a debate at a local university campus on Friday February 6th.  Please be in prayer for this event as we seek to work with either Christian student organizations to sponsor the debate or with atheistic student organizations to provide Frank with an opponent.  More details will be forthcoming.

 Special Prayer Meetings:

We have decided to hold a series of prayer meetings for the upcoming Super Bowl Outreach in Tampa, FL.  A contingent from Dallas will be traveling together as a carpool.   We’re also asking everyone to consider fasting for this outreach as well.  We won’t presume to tell you when or how to fast, but to do so in accordance with your Biblical understanding of the practice of fasting.

Please plan on coming out to pray even if you are not able to attend the outreach.  Your prayer support means so much!

The meetings will be held on the following Saturday mornings at 8:00AM in January at First Baptist Church of Justin in Room 103.

 January 10th.

7.  Pray for a venue and opponent to become available for Dr. Frank Turek’s visit on February 6th.

One Response to “Evangelism Update January 5 2009”

  1. One From Herspanicsville Says:

The “Who will go to America” video is sad. The church behind it uses a mormon technique called, “meat hook evangelism.” They put up a sad commentary on some spirtual subject that most would agree. Once you agree with them, they hope you become like them or interested enough to join them.
Check them out more carefully, it’s a cult!
